Demencia reflects my experience when going through my grandmother’s dementia. As a degenerative illness, you deal with a progressive loss of the person you care about, while maintaining your strength to be there for them despite your feelings. This erratic and unpredictable path is represented both melodically and rhythmically. Harmonically, I explored the harmonic minor sonority, maintaining the augmented seventh through the whole piece, not to reinforce the resolution in the first chord but to exaggerate the tension.
